It has been assumed that Yunel Escobar will only play third base for the Washington Nationals while Anthony Rendon works back from a knee injury.

However, the Nationals may keep Escobar at third and move Rendon to second base upon his return, according to sources.

"They can both play both very well," general manager Mike Rizzo said via text. "Not sure how it shakes out yet."

Escobar has played extremely well at third base, and Rendon has proven to be adept at both.

The situation may have been compounded by a hand injury suffered by Escobar on Monday night.
