The Los Angeles Angels are close to a trade agreement with the Texas Rangers involving Josh Hamilton.

The Angels have wanted to part ways with Hamilton since his relapse with substance abuse.

Hamilton is on the disabled list as he recovers from offseason shoulder surgery.

Arte Moreno and general manager Jerry DiPoto were displeased by Hamilton’s self-reported relapse in February and a subsequent decision by an arbitrator that Major League Baseball cannot punish Hamilton.

The Angels have preferred to trade Hamilton rather than just merely releasing him with $83 million still owed.

Hamilton was on the Rangers until he signed with the Angels in free agency.
