The Chicago Cubs will call up Addison Russell on Tuesday, according to a source.

To make room for the infielder, Arismendy Alcantara will be optioned to Triple-A Iowa.

Russell, 21, was acquired by the Cubs from the Oakland Athletics last July 4 for Jeff Samardzija and Jason Hammel after Oakland took him with the 11th overall pick in the 2012 amateur draft.

He has primarily been a shortstop but moved over to second base recently in preparation for a promotion to the Major Leagues.
