The Boston Red Sox and Rick Porcello have agreed not to discuss a contract extension during the regular season.

Porcello told the organization that he would prefer not to negotiate once the season begins. The Red Sox open up in Philadelphia on Monday.

A team source confirmed that the organization has agreed that negotiations should wait until season's end.

"I don't want any distractions when we start the season," the pitcher said. "I just want to focus on pitching."

Porcello will be eligible for free agency following the 2015 season.
