Max Scherzer has some advice for David Price as the left-hander approaches free agency.

The pitchers were teammates for a few months with the Detroit Tigers last season.

Price is set to become a free agent after the season. Scherzer signed a seven-year, $210 million deal with the Washington Nationals this winter.

"The biggest advice I can give is when you come to the park, it has to all be about winning," Scherzer said. "No room for anything else or any other motivation. Your only motivation is to go out there and try to win every single time. That really worked for me."

Scherzer believes that Price is positioned for a similar contract.

"You only get one shot at this, to sign a big deal," he said. "He's going to be in a position to do it, whether he does it now or in the offseason. That's his choice. But you have to do it right. That's something you have to be comfortable with."
