The Chicago Cubs on Sunday announced that the club has agreed to a five-year deal with Aramis Ramirez that will keep the third baseman with the Cubs through the 2011 season. The contact also includes a mutual option for the 2012 season. Ramirez, 28, set career bests with 38 home runs and 119 RBIs with the Cubs in 2006, while his .965 fielding percentage (13 errors in 375 total chances) led National League third basemen and ranked fifth overall in the Majors at that position. In addition to his 38 long balls, he added 38 doubles, making him just the sixth Cub to reach 35 doubles and home runs in the same season. He drove in 94 of his team-leading 119 RBIs after May 31, becoming just the fifth different Cub since 1954 to tally 90 or more RBIs after June 1.
