The Texas Rangers will receive financial compensation if Yu Darvish undergoes Tommy John surgery and misses the season.

Texas has an insurance policy on the contract of Darvish, who will make $10 million in 2015. Under the policy, the Rangers could get more than half of that total back.

While the underwriting of insurance policies varies for players, the general practice is that there is a "deductible period" of about 60 days that must be met before a team can start to collect.

Darvish is scheduled to meet with New York-based orthopedist Dr. David Altchek on Tuesday to discuss options regarding an elbow injury.
