The Royals announced today that the club has signed right-handed pitcher Chris Young to a one-year, Major League contract. In a corresponding roster move, the Royals have placed right-handed pitcher Kris Medlen on the 60-day disabled list.
Young, 35, pitched for the Mariners last season, posting a 12-9 record with a 3.65 ERA (67 ER in 165.0 IP) and ranked eighth in the A.L. with a .234 opponents’ batting average (143-for-612). He was named the American League’s Comeback Player of the Year by The Sporting News after not pitching in the Major Leagues during the 2013 season.
