Shane Victorino wants to start for the Boston Red Sox and John Farrell said Friday that his request will be granted.

"If Shane Victorino is fully capable and fully healthy, he's our right fielder," said Farrell. "I mean, that's pretty simple. He was one of the best right fielders in the game two years ago.

"When you come back from injury, you shouldn't have lost your job because of an injury. He's rehabbed it successfully to date. And going forward, we've just got to monitor the recovery rate. We've got a full Spring Training to do that, and probably into the first part of the year."

Victorino told reporters on Thursday that he had no intention of being a bench player despite Boston's depth in the outfield.

Hanley Ramirez will play left field and time in center and right will have to be split among Mookie Betts, Rusney Castillo, Allen Craig and Daniel Nava.
