The San Diego Padres made an "aggressive offer" for Cole Hamels before coming to terms on a deal with James Shields.

The exact offer for Hamels isn't known, but the Philadelphia Phillies may not be happy with what can be had from the San Diego system.

It remains to be seen if the Padres are still interested in acquiring Hamels following the addition of Shields.
