The San Diego Padres have agreed to a four-year deal with James Shields worth between $72 million and $78 million, according to a report.
The contract also includes a club option for a fifth year.
The Chicago Cubs, Miami Marlins and Toronto Blue Jays were recently connected to the right-hander.
