The San Diego Padres have the flexibility to add to their payroll for the 2015 season, according to executive chairman Ron Fowler.

"[Team president and CEO Mike Dee], A.J. [Preller] and I have had numerous conversations regarding payroll for 2015 and beyond," Fowler said. "I believe A.J. feels he has sufficient flexibility to make a deal if it is the right fit.

"I very much respect his discipline in looking at options."

San Diego's payroll currently stands just under $90 million, which is the number they opened last season with.

The Padres could add a starting pitcher and have been linked to James Shields and Cole Hamels.
