Rafael Furcal, looking to continue his Major League career, saw his chances of doing so decrease when he suffered a torn hamstring in the Dominican Republic recently.

The infielder will miss the playoffs in the Dominican Winter League.

There had been only minimal interest in Furcal among Major League teams this winter.

The 37-year-old was limited to nine games with the Miami Marlins in 2014 because of a strained hamstring. He missed the entire 2013 season while recovering from Tommy John surgery.
