Jon Lester agreed to terms with the Chicago Cubs late Tuesday night, turning down a chance to return to the Boston Red Sox.

Lester will receive $155 million over six years from the Cubs as well as a vesting option for a seventh season.

Boston's final offer was for six years and $135 million and it did not include a vesting option, according to a report.

The Red Sox originally offered the left-hander a four-year, $70 million deal in March in an effort to keep him from becoming a free agent.
