Madison Bumgarner has been named Sports Illustrated's Sportsman of the Year.

Bumgarner was World Series MVP after pitching a record 52 2/3 innings, including five scoreless innings of relief in Game 7.

Bumgarner boosted his World Series stats to numbers never seen before: 4-0 with a save and an 0.25 ERA, along with three championship rings. In 36 innings, he has allowed just one run and 14 hits, striking out 31 and walking five.

"He's such a humble guy, and we rode him pretty good," Bruce Bochy said following the San Francisco Giants' Game 7 win.

"It's historic what this kid has done. Really, truly amazing."
