In a somewhat surprising move, the Colorado Rockies extended a one-year, $15.3 million qualifying offer to Michael Cuddyer on Monday.

Cuddyer, who will turn 36 in March, played in just 49 games this season. He has been very productive when healthy, winning the 2013 National League batting title.

No player has ever accepted a qualifying offer, but many believe Cuddyer is a candidate to do so.
