Matt Harvey will throw a few more bullpen sessions before being shut down by the New York Mets, according to a source.

Harvey will end 2014 without having faced a batter and never being allowed to throw at full strength. The right-hander had Tommy John surgery last Oct. 22 and has declared himself ahead of schedule all along.

He will be allowed to throw all his pitches before New York shuts him down.

"That is the point we want him to get to and then he will stop," a team source said. "However long it takes for him to get there, but he will be done by the end of this month."
