Lastings Milledge suffered some ups and downs during his rookie season with the Mets. In the spring, he was a virtual lock to become one of their starting outfielders with the departure of Cliff Floyd, but the play of Endy Chavez and the acquisition of Shawn Green, coupled with a few questions about his maturity have made that far from certain. "I can't tell you that I'm comfortable with that today," Minaya said. "But when we get to spring training we will evaluate that based upon what kind of players we acquire this winter." "Omar and I have to sit down, Jeff [Wilpon], the whole organization sit down and talk about that kind of stuff," manager Willie Randolph said. "Guys that have played hard for me, guys that have gone to bat for me, I always want back because they've shown me what they're all about. "Milledge is in winter ball right now. Milledge is going to come to spring training and fight for a job, just like some of those young pitchers are, and that's when we'll see where we are. But right now, to sit and talk about what we need, who might be in the mix, who knows? Those guys could be used in trades. They might not even be here."
