The New York Yankees would have a much better chance of making the playoffs if they added depth to their starting rotation.

Indications are that they won't be able to acquire someone like David Price or Jeff Samardzija because they don't have the pieces to put together a worthy package. The Tampa Bay Rays are also unlikely to trade Price within the American League East.

"Right now, they are dodging bullets," an executive said of the Yankees. "They have a lot of five- and six-inning guys, and they are about to negate the effectiveness of [Dellin] Betances and [Adam] Warren by leaning on them too much. They need to get on the board by adding a starter. Heck, I think they need two."

Joel Sherman of the New York Post writes that they may have to target guys like John Danks, Jason Hammel or Ian Kennedy.
