Bud Selig has been honored for his dedication in the fight against cancer.

During a physical 10 years ago, doctors discovered a lesion on Selig's forehead that turned out to be cancerous. It was removed and Selig hasn't had any issues since.

"I was more fortunate than most, and I knew it. The experience gave me a greater perspective and also made me more determined to find a way for the national pastime to help defeat a disease that has affected us all," Selig said.

The commissioner received the Wistar Institute President's Award, given annually to an individual who has personally been touched by cancer, educates others about the disease and advocates for cancer research.
