Ron Roenicke came to Ryan Braun's defense Sunday after a baserunning blunder cost the Milwaukee Brewers a run in a narrow loss to the Miami Marlins the day before.

Carlos Gomez was thrown out at third base trying to advance from first on a single for the final out of the sixth inning, which prevented Braun from scoring from second on the play.

Braun was several feet from crossing the plate when Gomez was tagged out. After the game, Gomez said Braun should have run harder and scored.

"I saw the replays, and Braun wasn't going to score," Roenicke said. "If he goes 100 percent, it's probably going to be a little closer at home plate, but he was still quite a ways away."
