Jacoby Ellsbury had an MRI on his left calf, which was negative, but the New York Yankees don't know when he'll return to the field.

"This was good news. We got good news today," Joe Girardi said.

"Our people decided to take a precautionary MRI to make sure there wasn't anything there, and it came back negative," Girardi added. "Everything is great."

Ellsbury was scratched from New York's lineup before a March 16 game. He has insisted the injury is so minor he would have played if this had been the regular season, but he has yet to run.

The Yankees signed Ellsbury to a $153 million deal this winter.
