Erik Bedard says he will opt out of his contract with the Tampa Bay Rays if he doesn't make the team's starting rotation.

"There's a lot of starters who have been hurt so there's a lot of chances and I'll probably go somewhere else," Bedard told reporters Tuesday. "Every day it seems like a starter goes down. There's a lot of opportunities out there if I'm not on the team."

Bedard's opt-out clause kicks in March 31, the opening day for most teams.

The 35-year-old is 2-1 this spring with a 7.15 ERA in 11.1 innings. Opponents are hitting .347 against him.
