The Giants on Saturday signed veteran outfielder Tyler Colvin who played for the Rockies last season. Colvin, 28, hit .160 a year ago while dealing with back tightness, but he has an intriguing résumé. In 2012, Colvin hit 18 homers for the Rockies and posted an OPS of .858. In 2010, his first full big league season, Colvin hit 20 homers in 358 at-bats for the Cubs.

Giants manager Bruce Bochy said Colvin would compete with Juan Perez and Roger Kieschnick for the fifth job in the outfield.
