The Cleveland Indians haven't completely closed the door on an extension for Justin Masterson, but the two sides have put talks on hold for now.

They are focused on reaching a one-year deal to avoid a Feb. 20 arbitration hearing in Florida.

Masterson's camp submitted a salary request of $11.8 million for this season, while Cleveland countered with an offer of $8.05 million.

The $3.75 million gap in proposals represents the largest difference among arbitration-eligible players who exchanged numbers with their team.
