Alex Rodriguez has a Grade 1 strain of his left quadriceps and will not return from the disabled list.

Rodriguez, who has missed the entire season following his second hip surgery, was supposed to be in the lineup at Texas on Monday night.

"I am extremely disappointed with the results of the MRI and hoping to be back as soon as possible and continue with my goal of coming back and helping the Yankees win a championship," Rodriguez said in a statement.

Rodriguez, who turns 38 this week, will now return to the team's training complex in Tampa for rest and treatment.
