Colorado right-handed pitcher Shawn Chacon called the club's conservative rehab assignment for his left hamstring strain -- starts of 50, 75 and 100 pitches at Triple-A Colorado Springs -- "ridiculous." Pitching coach Bob Apodaca said he understands Chacon's disagreement, but "the players, and I was a player, we're the worst judge of what's best for us." Chacon, who suffered the injury on June 2 and missed a start a few days earlier because of an ankle sprain, is scheduled to join Colorado Springs on Tuesday at Salt Lake City. The schedule will keep him with the Sky Sox until early July. Chacon, who has been the Rockies' best starter this year despite a 1-4 record, said Sunday he believes the pace is too slow. "I told them how I felt about it," said Chacon, who would prefer to throw 75 pitches in the first rehab start and return after another one of 100 pitches. "It's too many starts, for one. It's ridiculous. I was pretty surprised, because nobody told me anything about what was done for me. It was basically, 'Here's what you're going to do.' "I'm like, 'Hold on, I feel a whole lot better than needing three starts.' Three starts is another 15 days."
