Derek Jeter says a bone bruise in his left ankle is not an issue and he has no plans to miss time as the Yankees contend for a playoff spot.

However, others within the organization claim Jeter is in more pain than he will admit.

He suffered the injury earlier this week in Boston.

"He's banged up, but he's playing through it," Brian Cashman said. "We want him to get better, but it's one of those things it's hard to get better (while you're playing). I think we're going to have to help him manage it to the degree that we can.

"We have to help someone manage through it, when it's someone who doesn't want help."

Jeter had two hits in New York's loss to Tampa Bay on Friday night. He is on a 10-game hitting streak.

"If we want to help Derek Jeter, we have to win as many games as possible, so we can rest him," Cashman said. But Derek Jeter would tell you, 'If you want to help me, shut the blank up, let me play, write my name in the lineup and let me get my hits and help us win.'"
