A number of Red Sox players criticized Bobby Valentine in a meeting with owners John Henry and Larry Lucchino last month, according to sources. The meeting was called after a group of players sent an angry text message to ownership about Valentine. It was held on July 27, an off-day in New York, after players aired their dissatisfaction with Valentine for embarrassing Jon Lester by leaving him in to allow 11 runs during a July 22 start. Some players said during the meeting that they no longer wanted to play for the manager, according to sources. Not all of the Red Sox players attended the meeting.
