The Yankees have placed closer David Robertson on the disabled list after tests revealed the right-hander suffered a strained left oblique last week. Robertson was installed as New York's closer after Mariano Rivera suffered a season-ending injury earlier this month. "We don't think it's too severe but it's hard to tell. Obliques can be tricky," manager Joe Girardi said. "We expect him not to pick up a baseball for probably seven to 10 days and then we'll see where we are after that." Rafael Soriano, who came on to close on Monday and earned his second save of the year, will likely handle the majority of the save opportunities in Robertson's absence.
