The Royals are just 3-9 this season, including 0-6 at home, but the organization is confident that they are headed in the right direction. "I'm disappointed in our won-loss record," owner David Glass said, "but I have no concerns about the fact this team is going to turn it around and get it straightened out." Kansas City has the fourth-lowest payroll ($61 million) in baseball, but that number figures to increase as their core of young players matures. "The more payroll you have, the easier it is to be competitive," Glass said. 'But you've seen Tampa Bay and several other teams go to the World Series with low payrolls, so you don't have to do it that way. "What you can do is develop a lot of your own players, bring them up through your system without having to go to the big-time free agents. That's what we're doing and hopefully, it will work out well."
