The Rockies released veteran Casey Blake on Tuesday. Colorado signed Blake to a non-guaranteed $2 million contract in January. The team was looking to bridge third base before the arrival of top prospect Nolan Arenado at some point this season. After undergoing offseason neck surgery and missing a week with a stiff neck, the 38-year-old Blake never gained traction this spring. "Once we made the decision that Casey was not going to make our club, we wanted to do what was best for him," Rockies general manager Dan O'Dowd said. "It was absolute pleasure to have Casey wear a Rockies uniform. His professionalism and work ethic were tremendous additions to our camp and we wish him the best of luck."
