The Cubs traded disgruntled pitcher Carlos Zambrano to the Marlins on Thursday, according to an ESPN.com report. The transaction requires the Cubs to pay $15M of the $18M owed Zambrano in 2012, a league source said. Zambrano had a $19M vesting option for 2013 if he finished in the top four in Cy Young Award voting, but he waived that and will receive a $100,000 bonus if he is voted the comeback player of the year. The Cubs will receive right-handed pitcher Chris Volstad in return.
