Justin Verlander has won the American League Most Valuable Player award for the 2011 season. Verlander is the first pitcher to win the award since 1992 when Dennis Eckersley won as a closer with the A's. Roger Clemens was the last starting pitcher to win both the AL MVP and AL Cy Young in the same season. Jacoby Ellsbury, Jose Bautista, Curtis Granderson and Miguel Cabrera rounded out the top-five.
