Now that closer Jonathan Papelbon has left for the Phillies, the Red Sox will turn their attention towards re-signing designated hitter David Ortiz. Boston general manager Ben Cherington wouldn't confirm on Friday whether an offer had been extended to Ortiz, but he did hint that retaining the slugger might be easier than the reliever. "I prefer not to comment on offers," Cherington said. "We have had a lot of dialogue with David and his agent. What I feel, and I think he feels, [is] a little bit more of a defined market for that role. It's been easier to engage sooner and it's less likely to be a situation where he gets into the market and there's something that he pushed on, or pushed into a corner on."
