The Cardinals interviewed longtime third base coach Jose Oquendo and Hall of Famer Ryne Sandberg on Wednesday for their managerial vacancy. St. Louis interviewed six candidates as possible replacements for Tony La Russa, who retired after winning the World Series last month. A source said no more interviews were anticipated and a decision could come next week. In addition to Sandberg and Oquendo, the Cardinals have met with Terry Francona, Chris Maloney, Joe McEwing and Mike Matheny.
