The Yankees and representatives for CC Sabathia will try to work out a new contract this weekend to prevent the pitcher from becoming a free agent, according to baseball officials. Both sides are motivated to get a deal done. Sabathia has the ability to opt out of his contract, which he signed prior to the 2009 season, and hit the open market. There are four years and $92 million remaining on his current deal. Two weeks ago, Sabathia's agent, Brian Peters, told ESPN's Buster Olney, "We will exhaust all of our efforts to reach a new agreement [with the Yankees]."
