Rangers manager Ron Washington plans to start Michael Young at first base in Game 3 of the ALCS at Comerica Park in Detroit.
First baseman Mitch Moreland has been struggling at the plate, going 2-for-17, and had a particularly rough game Monday night.
His 0-for-4 included three strikeouts and a bases-loaded double play in the ninth. He also made an error in the field.
Starting Young at first will also allow Texas to give Mike Napoli a break by letting him be the designated hitter while giving Yorvit Torrealba a start at catcher.
"I need to get Mike in the field for a game," Washington said, "and I want to give Torry a game."
