The Reds are hoping that Zack Cozart can be their full-time shortstop next season. Cozart, a former second-round pick, had a very impressive trial run before an elbow injury and subsequent surgery ended his season. "It was his," Reds manager Dusty Baker said of Cozart holding down the shortstop job. "He looked good. He looked very good. You don't pay too much attention to short runs. At least I don't. He's going to have every opportunity. When a guy gets the opportunity, it's up to him. Of all the young guys who have come up, he looks the most ready to play winning baseball in all phases of the game." Cozart played in a total of 11 games. He hit .324 with two home runs and three RBI. Not exactly a long big league resume. "We're hoping he's the guy," general manager Walt Jocketty said.
