The Royals have announced today that the club has acquired catcher Matt Treanor from the Rangers in exchange for cash considerations. With the trade, the Royals 40-man roster now stands at 40. Treanor is expected to join the Royals today and be in uniform for the club’s exhibition game this afternoon against the Brewers. Treanor, 35, returns to the Royals after originally being selected by the club in the fourth round of the 1994 June Free Agent Draft. He was traded by the Royals to the Marlins in exchange for Matt Whisenant on July 29, 1997. Treanor led the Rangers in games caught last season and homered in the ALCS against the Yankees. He batted .211 in 2010 and set new career highs in games (82), at bats (237), runs (22), hits (50), home runs (5), RBI (27) and walks (22). Treanor is a .227 career hitter in 360 games for the Marlins (2004-08), Tigers (2009) and Rangers (2010). He batted .273 (6-for-22) with one home run and four RBI in 11 games for the Rangers this spring.
