Rocco Baldelli began the season as a special instructor in Tampa Bay's system. He's now with the Rays as a player in the thick of a pennant race with the Yankees. "If we're winning games, I'm going to be happy, whether that has me in the lineup or not," said Baldelli. "I think I'm to the point in my career where I want to play, but I think winning is the only thing that I'm worried about." Baldelli is only 28, but his career has been marred by injuries and, more recently, a cell disorder that leaves him exhausted and limits his time in the outfield. "I like playing; I don't know what else I would do," Baldelli said. "I have some ideas. What I did earlier this year was definitely pretty nice, but there's nothing better than playing. Coming out here every day, it's something that I've done the last 10 years of my life and it's not something I'm going to let go of easily."
