The Marlins have begun internal discussions about offering second baseman Dan Uggla a multi-year contract. Florida dangled Uggla in trades last winter, but they now want to keep him through 2012, when they are expected to open their new ballpark. "It'd make me a very happy man," Uggla said Monday. "I think everybody knows I'd like to stay here in South Florida. It has become my second home. I love the people down there." Without offering names, Marlins baseball operations president Larry Beinfest said the team will consider offering multi-year deals after the season to at least two players.
