The Yankees decided to pull second baseman Robinson Cano out of Monday's Home Run Derby on Wednesday because of a minor back condition. Cano wasn't in the lineup on Wednesday night against the Athletics for the first time all season. The second baseman, who was "upset" and "disappointed," had a meeting and conference call with manager Joe Girardi and general manager Brian Cashman. New York doesn't want his back injury to get worse because of his participation in the Derby. "They don't want to take the risk to lose me for the second half or two weeks, three weeks or a month," Cano said during his second meeting with the press on Wednesday. "I agree with them."
