Yankees pitcher Javier Vazquez pitched brilliantly against the Mets on Friday night, but left in the seventh inning after hurting his finger on a bunt attempt. Vazquez allowed just one hit over six innings in New York's 2-1 win over their crosstown rival. He tried to convince the Yankees that his finger wasn't broken, but it was bloodied and bruised after the hit. "It wasn't the situation where I wanted to take him out," Yankees manager Joe Girardi said. "He was rolling. He was outstanding." Vazquez was making his first start in nine days and has been skipped in the rotation twice because of his struggles. "I feel so embarrassed because I've been doing this for a lot of years in the National League and this has never happened to me," he said of the bunt. I'm going to throw in between. ... It feels like the ball hit me but I don't feel bad like is achy or anything like that." After the start, Vazquez improved to 3-4 and his ERA dropped to 6.69. It has been as high as 12.71 this season.
