Yankees manager Joe Girardi isn't going to ask his hitters to speed up their approach just to increase the pace of games. Umpire Joe West said following this past week's series between the Red Sox and Yankees that the two clubs were an "embarrassment" due to their pace of play. "We're not going to ask our hitters to change their approach to speed the game up," Girardi said. "We're not going to do it. We're trying to win games, not trying to see how quick we can play." Yankees shortstop Derek Jeter didn't agree with West either. "I don't see what's pathetic or embarrassing about it," Jeter said. "If it's 20 minutes shorter, it's not pathetic or embarrassing? At what point is it not embarrassing? You'd have to ask him. If you go over 3:12, it's embarrassing? I don't know."
