The Rangers signed first baseman/DH Erubiel Durazo Tuesday morning. The 31-year-old Durazo hit just .237 in 41 games last season before going on the disabled list May 25th with left elbow tendinitis. He underwent elbow ligament replacement ?Tommy John? July 22nd, but says he has been swinging a bat since December. If healthy, he could provide significant competition for Phil Nevin and David Dellucci at the DH spot, as Durazo is a career .281 hitter. ?I?m looking for more opportunities to play,? Durazo said of why he chose the Rangers, ?and I feel like I?ve got that here. I know the chance that I?ve got here.? Durazo believes that if healthy he will win a spot on the team, though his contract is currently a minor-league one. In 2004, he batted .321 with 22 home runs and 88 RBIs. Nevin said the addition of Durazo did not surprise him or worry him.
