Tigers manager Jim Leyland thinks his friend Barry Bonds might retire sooner than he's saying. "It wouldn't totally surprise me if four months from now, if he's not feeling really good and is really miserable, he might retire during the season," Leyland said Monday. "That wouldn't surprise me at all." Bonds said in Monday's USA Today that he would retire after this season. "There's nothing sad about it," said Leyland, who was Bonds' first major league manager. "It's wonderful to have some kind of career like that. You make your mark. You're part of history. You're one of the greatest players ever to play the game. You made your money." Leyland said he just hopes "that after he's out, he's physically OK and he can enjoy his family."/
