First baseman Derrek Lee, who enjoyed a breakout season last year, arrived at camp Saturday, as did center fielder Juan Pierre. Jerry Hairston, Jacque Jones, Matt Murton and Ronny Cedeno are among the position players here before they have to report on Monday. Lee, who won the National League batting title last year with a .335 average, expects pitchers to make adjustments when they face him. ?That?s hitting,? he said. ?It?s always an adjustment. I don?t really change my approach. Just try to hit good pitches. If they?re over the plate, hit them. If they?re not, let them go.? Lee is entering his free-agent season, and the Cubs would like to sign him to a contract extension. That could happen in spring training, or talks between the Cubs and Lee?s agent could extend into the season. ?Not really any dialogue,? Lee said. ?We?ll see what happens. I want to focus on the season. If something gets done, great, because I like Chicago, and I think it?s a great place to play. Otherwise just block it out and concentrate on the season.?
