The Texas Rangers avoided arbitration with a pair of players Saturday, agreeing to terms with righthander Vicente Padilla and outfielder Gary Matthews Jr. on one-year contracts. Financial terms were not disclosed. A report on the team's official web site said that Padilla's deal is worth $4.4 million and Matthews' is $2.4 million. With Padilla and Matthews signed, outfielder Kevin Mench is the Rangers' only remaining arbitration-eligible player.
