The Red Sox became interested in Placido Polanco shortly after the Tigers opted not to offer him arbitration. A switch from second base to shortstop for Dustin Pedroia remains an unlikely move but the Red Sox clearly plan to consider all options to resolve their infield situation. Other free agents the Red Sox have contacted include shortstop Bobby Crosby and infielder Mark DeRosa.
